Make sure you and your family are safe from carbon monoxide poisoning when on holiday by following these simple steps:
- Have your gas and fuel burning appliances serviced by a licensed gasfitter every 1 – 2 years.
- Only use heaters and cookers designed for indoor operation.
- Only use gas heaters that have a proper flue installed.
- Ensure adequate ventilation when operating any fuel burning appliance – open all windows and doors if possible.
- Turn off all gas appliances before going to bed – at the bottle or canister.
- Never use a gas oven or cooker as a heater.
- Never take a barbecue into a tent, awning or caravan.
- Never leave a smouldering barbecue within a tent, awning or caravan.
- Never run a gas, petrol or diesel-powered generator inside a caravan, tent or awning.
- Install an audible carbon monoxide alarm.
