Home Appliance Safety Caravans & Camping

Caravans & Camping

Make sure you and your family are safe from carbon monoxide poisoning when on holiday by following these simple steps:

  • Have your fuel burning appliances serviced by a licensed gasfitter at least once every two years.
  • Only use heaters and cookers designed for indoor operation.
  • Only use gas heaters that have a proper flue installed.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation when operating any fuel burning appliance – open all windows and doors if possible.
  • Turn off all gas appliances before going to bed – at the bottle or canister.
  • Never use a gas oven or cooker as a heater.
  • Never take a barbecue into a tent, awning or caravan.
  • Never leave a smouldering barbecue within a tent, awning or caravan.
  • Never run a gas, petrol or diesel-powered generator inside a caravan, tent or awning.
  • Install an audible carbon monoxide alarm.
